Weekly Overview

On Monday our team, recently named M.A.R.S. 19, worked on a needs-to-know list for our separate jobs. Tuesday, we did not have Team Time because we had a video conference with Lyle Tavernier from the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory in California. On Wednesday, we went over what each of us could do during Team Time. Thursday, we learned how to access our team’s google account and google drive.

Monday, May 11

On Monday, our team created a needs-to-know list within each of our separate jobs. All the scientists were together and the engineers, etc. We all contributed in making a needs-to-know- list for our team. We thought of questions such as:

  • How will we eat, sleep, and grow food on Mars?
  • How much does the mission cost?
  • What will the astronauts do on Mars?
  • Is it safe?

We did not have Team Time on Tuesday

Wednesday, May 13

On Wednesday, we went over what each person could do during Team Time. For example, the cartographer could work with the Mission Control to figure out what we need on our Mission Mat.

Thursday, May 14
Thursday, our whole team went into the 6th grade hall computer lab. We were shown how to log into our team’s google account. We learned how to access Google Drive, and we each created a document and typed what we did during jobs. After we were finished, we could look at other people’s documents and see what they did in their job. For our next document, we wrote down ideas we had for our rover to accomplish.

Today we worked on IPads and researched more information on our mission ideas for our Lego rover. Littleman, our mechanical engineer, has started digital designing a practice robot to make. The Digital Designer, Kai, and our Document Manager, Tiarra, created several logos for our team to vote on. We will post our logo soon!

Weekly Overview

On Monday, we started our week by creating new documents in Google Drive, and writing down missions that our rover could complete on our Mission Mat. Tuesday, we went over a job breakdown, and learned that there were three groups for mission ideas. There is a group for Atmosphere, Hydroponics, and Water. On Wednesday, while we were working in our groups, we had a visit from Dr. Jim Carrol from Clarkson University. He helped us with ideas for our Mission Mat.

Monday, May 18
On Monday, we shared ideas of what missions our rover could accomplish on our Mission Board. We documented our ideas on Drive and we researched information to fully understand our ideas. When we were done, we looked at everyone else’s ideas.

Tuesday, May 19
On Tuesday, we found out that we would be put in separate groups depending on what our idea was for our mission. There was a group for Atmosphere, Water, and Hydroponics. We found that there were comments from Mrs. Chapman on each of our ideas.
Wednesday, May 20
Wednesday, we worked in our groups again, and we were visited by Jim Carrol from Clarkson University. He helped us think of ideas for our Mission Mat.
